Visibility of ‘work in progress’ (WIP) is what truly sets us apart from other legal spend management platforms. WIP is the amount of unbilled spend that is accrued on a matter at any time. This amount can either be billed or may be written down by the law firm.
WIP on a matter
With the ability to see the amount of work sitting on each matter, you are able to make better decisions for your business. Effectively manage your legal spend early in the matter lifecycle to mitigate risk and prevent excess or unnecessary work before you are billed for it.
In Apperio, you have the ability to see how your WIP (unbilled spend) relates to your total spend and budget. On the matters page you can see an overview of your unbilled spend, and understand how this relates to your total spend on a matter.
You can view your overall WIP for all matters in Apperio across a chosen date range from the dashboard
Charts in Apperio
The charts in Apperio are used to represent the amount of spend. Billed work is shown in charts as dark blue and unbilled work, or work in progress (WIP) is displayed as a lighter blue. The total spend breakdown is shown when you hover over the bar chart.
Monthly Spend on the Dashboard
Alongside the amount billed, the WIP can be seen across your monthly spend. This gives you an insight into the months across the year where you may be overspending.
The ability to see the amount of WIP that has accrued over previous months could prove to be particularly useful as a general counsel. From this, you can have an open conversation with your law firm to understand whether they are going to bill or write down any unbilled spend.
